To the College Girl Struggling with Comparison & Contentment

As I approach my second year of college, I wanted to start this year strong with a firm foundation of truth of who God says I am. I’ve noticed I can get stuck in the midst of comparison and then a slow progression and then I’ve noticed all my contentment is gone. I like to pair comparison and contentment together because, without contentment in who God says you are, you will compare yourself to others, and when you start to compare yourself to others you will lose all your contentment in who God says you are. As a young woman in the faith, I struggle with comparison and contentment and I’d love to share some things God has shown me through it!

First off, God has made you to be YOU!

This seems very obvious, but why do we so often try and be someone else? someone, we are not? You cannot step into your calling by trying to be someone else. Your calling in life is for YOU, how will you step into that by trying to be someone else? You are unique for a reason, a reason God has a purpose for!

You, sweet friend, have your strengths and your weaknesses, do not compare your weaknesses to someone else’s strengths or someone else’s weaknesses to your strengths. We are all equipped with different talents and gifts all to further glorify God and the kingdom! We cannot all be the same, that would be boring. Praise God for your gifts and for the people who have gifts that you don’t have! We are all equally loved in God’s eyes and that is what matters most!

Comparison in the thief of joy. Do not compare your differences with others, celebrate that God made us all uniquely different!

Ultimately, sweet friend, do not seek the approval of others, seek the approval of God and you will find yourself much happier and content with who God has called you to be!

Sweet friend, you are BEAUTIFUL! You are ENOUGH! You are YOU!
